Event General Timing
The event window runs from mid-December to early March. Start day is a Sunday. (Same Day of Week)
Venue Selection
Consistently held at Waimea Bay (requires 40ft waves).
Application Deadlines
• – This is an invite-only event
• There is no direct qualification or public application process
• – Each year, 28–40 surfers are chosen by a polling of their peers and invited to participate
• – The selection process is based on reputation, big wave experience, and peer recognition
• – Alternates are also selected in case invited surfers cannot compete
Ticket Availability
• – The Eddie is free to attend for public spectators
• There is no ticketing system
• – Viewing is from Waimea Bay Beach Park
• Parking and access can be very challenging due to crowds
• – The event is also livestreamed free on KHON2.com, the Surfline YouTube channel, and the Rogue TV app
Event Preview Dates
• ‘- There is no traditional “preview day” for early public or VIP access
• – The Opening Ceremony is a cultural blessing event open to the public at Waimea Bay Beach Park
• – Media credentials can be requested through the official website via a Google Form
• – The contest itself only runs on one day within the holding period when wave conditions are met. waves must consistently reach 40-foot face heights
