Overview

The world’s leaders, negotiators, scientists, and activists converge in the Amazon city of Belém for the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). As the landmark halfway point between the 2015 Paris Agreement and its 2030 targets, COP30 is one of the most pivotal climate summits to date—set against the backdrop of the Amazon rainforest, a global symbol of biodiversity and climate urgency.

Highlights

🌱 Paris Agreement at the Halfway Mark – With only five years left to hit 2030 commitments, COP30 is expected to deliver sharper national pledges and stronger accountability mechanisms.

💰 Climate Finance & Justice – Central to negotiations will be financing adaptation and mitigation in developing nations, as well as operationalizing the Loss & Damage Fund for climate-vulnerable countries.

🌍 Amazon in Focus – Hosting the summit in Belém highlights the Amazon’s role in global climate stability, bringing Indigenous voices and forest protection to the center of the agenda.

⚡ Energy Transition Acceleration – Leaders and corporations are under pressure to deliver tangible steps toward phasing out fossil fuels and scaling renewable energy at speed.

🤝 Global Civil Society Engagement – COP30 will see activists, scientists, and businesses convene in side events, amplifying public demand for urgent, ambitious climate action.
